Pixel 10 Smartphone Series

The recent yesterday brought with it the launch of all new Google’s all-new series of Pixel smartphones that features Gemini as the AI assistant. Alphabet, Google’s parent company, announced that the Pixel 10 family of smartphones, stating that Google’s AI will allow users to perform smart tasks like instantly showing the address of home/office or anything as soon as anyone asks for it.

The Pixel 10 series has entered the market with various models while incorporating new AI and camera features. Pixel 10, the baseline model, is available in various colors with a price of $799. Pixel 10 Pro is the advanced version priced at $999, while Pixel 10 Pro XL comes with a larger screen and 256 GB of base storage, priced at $1199. Pixel 10 Pro Fold is going to be the updated version of folding smartphones of Google which will be priced at $1799.

Google’s series of Pixel smartphones comes before the launch of the new iPhone series, which is expected in September. Compared to the smartphone giants like Apple, Samsung, and Motorola, Google has a single-digit market share, which is far behind its competitors. However, the launch of smartphones enabled the firm to release its cutting-edge Android feature without turning toward third-party hardware makers. At the same time, it also helps to strengthen the Android OS position against iOS.

The new series of smartphones from Google will also serve as a funnel to AI services and subscriptions offered by Google. Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, also shared the vision of a universal assistant that can operate over any domain, any device, and any modality. Hassabis also told employees last year, “The products themselves are going to evolve massively over the next year or two.”

Apple has postponed a big update to Siri until 2026, which opens the doors for Google to secure significant competitive advantages and a lead among the AI-eager customers. A commercial for Google Pixel 10 also poked fun at Apple’s announcement of a delay in Siri update.

The commercial said, “If you buy a new phone because of a feature that’s coming soon, but it’s coming soon for a full year, you could change your definition of soon, or change your phone.

Pixel 10 is coming with a key feature named “Magic Cue,” which is expected to bring a completely new level of personalized intelligence and helpfulness. For instance, if you are calling an airline, Magic Cue will instantly surface the flight details as soon as you dial. With that, the company signaled towards the capability of its device to show relevant information based on the context of the smartphone.

Google also said that the Pixel 10 Pro Fold has the largest inner display among devices with foldable screens at 8 inches. The screen is built with two layers of anti-impact film that provide excellent drop protection to the device. Also, the device comes with a high-strength hinge that can handle folding for more than 10 years.

Google highlighted the Fold’s “split screen” competency that allows users to open two different apps on either part of the folded screen. The firm shared the use case of split screen, saying, “Imagine planning a trip with friends by comparing flight details in one app and checking hotel availability in another.”

Talking about the competitors, Samsung has already introduced its series of foldable phones with the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Apple is also expected to launch its first foldable iPhone as soon as 2026.

The integration of Gemini Live into the Pixel series allows the back-and-forth chat about what the device is seeing on its screen in real-time. The feature is built on Google’s image recognition prototype Project Astra.

Google also introduced a new assistant named “Camera Coach” that describes the scenes, people, and objects in the photograph while providing suggestions on camera angles and lighting. It also has the capability to combine similar-looking photos where “everyone looks their best”.

The Pixel 10 Pro smartphone comes with a free one-year subscription to Google’s AI Pro plan, which is generally charged $19/month. The plan offers access to Gemini features, AI products like NotebookLM and Veo 3, as well as some extra storage.

Irrespective of the continuous efforts of tech giants towards AI, there have been no major signs of people making their smartphone purchase choice on the basis of AI features. Also, any shift from iOS to Android for better AI functionalities has not yet been witnessed. No smartphone manufacturer has claimed that AI integration has contributed to their increased sales.
