Honor’s Magic 8

Honor has recently shared some images of its upcoming Magic 8 Pro flagship, confirming that the new phone will have a dedicated AI button. As soon as the phone launches in China next month, it is going to be the first smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset.

Magin Phones are the flagship series of Honor’s smartphones. The Pro models of this series tend to be launched first in China and later in Europe. The cost of this new smartphone is expected to be around €1,000 (approximately $1,200). The smartphone consists of powerful cameras, big batteries, and flagship chips for exceptional performance.

According to the shared images, the new Magic 8 Pro will look mostly like Magic 7 Pro, with the only exception of a flat surface of the phone’s back, unlike the subtle curvature in the previous model. Even the color of the phone resembles the previous version.

The biggest difference is going to be on the side of the smartphone where we can see the extra AI button that contains the fingerprint sensor with the volume rocker. According to Honor, this is a dedicated button that will be used for camera control. Despite calling it an AI button, it is still unknown what AI function it will carry out.

A new AI feature named Magic Color was also announced by the company, which allows users to restyle images and videos using the color palette of any other image. However, looking at the button, it is anticipated that the company has many more AI tricks in mind.

The back of the phone consists of a round rear camera island displaying four camera lenses. However, the camera setup will be a three plus a ToF (time of flight) that helps in depth detection.

A camera sample has also been shared by Guo Rui, CMO of Honor, with details like a 200-megapixel, 85mm-equivalent, f/2.6 camera, which signals towards a more powerful telephoto capability compared to Magic 7 Pro’s 72mm periscope.

Honor has also announced that Magic 8 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which is the latest iteration of the company’s flagship phone chip. However, Honor is not the only firm ready for the 8 Elite Gen 5. Xiaomi has also announced that it will be integrating new chipsets in its Xiaomi 17 series.

Referring to last year’s Honor Chinese launch event, where the company announced Magic 7, Magic 7 Pro, and a Lite model, it is anticipated that the company will be launching two new phones in its upcoming event. The new smartphone will also be joined by MagicPad 3 Pro, powered by 8 Elite Gen 5, with European release expected next year. The company is also rumored to be working on new Magic 8 Ultra and Mini models with the anticipated launch in 2026.
