OpenAI and Jony Ive May be Struggling to Figure out Their AI Device

Jony Ive and OpenAI have been working collaboratively to build screenless AI-powered devices. However, according to the information, the progress is significantly disturbed by the technical complexities and challenges.
io was a device startup founded by Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, for $6.5 billion. When OpenAI acquired io in May, Altman announced that Ive and his entire team would be helping the firm to create new generation of AI-powered computers. According to reports from Bloomberg, the first device from the firm was set to launch in 2026.
However, OpenAI and Ive are currently focusing on creating a palm-sized device without a screen that can process visual and audio cues from the physical environment and respond to the particular user requests accordingly. However, the lack of transparency over how the device will handle data and computing infrastructure is something that might delay the launch.
For instance, it has been reported that rather than waiting for a specific prompt, the device would be working on an “always on” approach. However, the team is finding it difficult to design so device that only speaks when required and automatically turns off at the right time.
