US AI Firm Cognition Climbs to $10.2B Valuation in Latest Funding

US-based AI startup named Cognition has reached a valuation of $10.2 billion after raising more than $400 million in its fresh funding round. According to the company, the round was headed by Founders Fund with a strong participation from entities like Definition Capital, Elad Gil, Neo, 8VC, Lux Capital, Swish VC, and many more. The new investors, including Hababi Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, and D1 Capital, also joined the funding round, signaling their strong confidence in the company’s growth trajectory.
Cognition was founded in 2024, and within the year, the firm has established itself as one of the fastest-growing companies in the AI software arena. Moreover, the flagship product “Devin” launched by the company has positioned itself as the first fully autonomous AI software engineering agent that can support the development team in multiple tasks like code generation, debugging, and execution.
Windsurf Deal Drives Faster Company Growth
Cognition announced the acquisition of Windsurf, a popular and widely used integrated development environment (IDE) provider, in July. Windsurf already had a strong foundation with over 350 enterprise customers and thousands of daily users, even before coming into the deal. Therefore, the strong financial stability of the firm made it the prime target of Windsurf for strategic expansion.
The partnership between Windsurf and Cognition has played a significant role in enhancing product capabilities and boosting the enterprise’s annual recurring revenue by more than 30% in under two months since the acquisition.
The move has further strengthened the reputation of Cognition as a well-established player in the AI-for-developers market.
Increasing Revenue- Proving Cognition’s Success
The revenue trajectory of Cognition has marked a significant shift in how AI startups are evaluated in the market. While most of the startups chase inflated valuations on the basis of future promises, Cognition has always been more bent toward demonstrating revenue growth with operational efficiency. Within a year, Cognition has grown its annual recurring revenue from $1 million to $73 million while keeping the total net burn less than $20 million.
Cognitions’ tools are no longer in their experiment phase but are playing the core role in mission-critical processes for enterprise clients like Goldman Sachs, Cisco, Dell, Citi, Nubank, and Palantir.
Eliminating Limitations in AI Coding
The research has surfaced multiple challenges that developers face while using AI tools. It mainly included the inefficiency of tools in higher-level software engineering tasks like testing, refactoring, and long-term maintenance.
So, Cognition addressed these challenges with a hybrid approach by building an intelligent development environment that allows coders to use highly efficient autonomous agents that can execute the defined tasks with utmost accuracy. At the same time, this tool is designed to ensure the firm involvement of human experts in the crucial parts.
